It restored my faith in San Jose junkyards, that's for sure!īud's Bugs in Concord (Port of Chicago, technically) has been gone for years. If anybody else needs a San Jose junkyard, they had probably around ten bugs from '65 to '74.

I got totally lucky yesterday, and by chance happened upon the San Jose Pick 'N Pull near Milpitas, and got the exact part I needed. Posted: Mon 7:38 pm Post subject: Thanks, everybody is northern California's largest Volkswagen only auto dismantler But they tend to be proud of their parts.ĩ1 Check out the yard tour on the website. They're really in business for the newer stuff but they still have lots of old bugs, Ghias, and busses, even a Thing or 2. There is a VW only yard in Roseville (just north of Sac towards Reno) called BW Auto Dismantlers. Rancho Cordova only had 6 bugs and 2 busses last week, Stockton Blvd had 3 bugs and zero busses.

We regularly provide parts for A3, A4, A5, A6, Q5,Q7, TT, Q3, S3, and many others. We regularly see parts requests for Mini Coopers, the Mini Cooper S, Base, Clubman, Countryman, Paceman, and Convertible models. Where there used to be 20-30 cars and 5-10 busses all the time there are now less than 10 total on a good day. Many Saab owners frequently request parts for the 9-5, 9-3, 0-2x, 9-7x, 900, and many other late model vehicles. I make the rounds to all of the ones around Sacratomato and the supply is definitely dwindling. PnP onlys holds their cars 90-120 days and then they are crushed. Sorry don't know the street or anything, just by memory. He always has TONS of projects out front, can't miss it. Theres also a vw shop near san jose state on the eastern side. Try penn auto in campbell, aint a junkyard, but lots of project cars unless you're in it for the hunt (which is understandable). What exactly are you looking for? i've had better luck asking for something on the forums or in the classified. Parts for your 70's bug are still plentiful though! I use to frequent the yards in the area, I use to find alot of early stuff. Going in there use to be fun, steppin on all those parts! Step away from the fiberglass and no one gets hurt!! BTW, mine is a '70, in case that means anything. Thanks everyone, I'll visit those locations this weekend. Its all a myth! aint nothin left.i know of 1 yard in merced and its locked down tight. Had pretty good luck at both of them, never found much in the bay area. There is a good pick and pull in Stockton off highway 99,usually has more later model bugs, and there is a big pick and pull in Sacramento near Rancho Cordova that has lots of bugs. Theres tone in san jose i just dont remmemberthe name Posted: Wed 7:30 pm Post subject: Re: Nada, Zilch, Nothing I have not seen a junk yard with any good amount of bugs since the early 1990's You might want to look in places like Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento, Montrey. Also you can get a feel for the types of damage you will come across like damage from accidents and also from fires. Your will see mechanical parts, paneling, doors, kitchens, everything. It captures the essence of what you will find at an RV salvage. Posted: Wed 7:01 pm Post subject: Nada, Zilch, Nothing This video shows rummaging through an RV junkyard in Missouri. It would be great if someone could help me out Posted: Wed 5:42 pm Post subject: Bay Area VW junkyardsĬan anybody help me find a good junkyard in the Bay Area? I've visited 3 over the past week, and have so far only found one Bug. As indicated, have some knowledge of salvage repairable vehicles and get estimates up front and your repair experience will be much better.Quick sort: Show newest posts on top | Show oldest posts on top I've never had any trouble getting titles, bill of sale, or vehicles shipped upon purchase, etc from George. 3) Get a time frame on repairs from your mechanic: example: is his shop out 3 months on repairs? six months on repairs?Ĥ) Add the cost of the vehicle, parts, repairs and time to fix and compare this amount of money and time to the same model vehicle that a dealership or private owner has for sale and analyze if the repair of the salvage vehicle is worth it.sometimes it is: sometimes it's not. 2) Get an estimate on parts from George (or any other salvage yard) as this is added cost to what you are actually paying for the vehicle. A mechanic can identify hidden damage and cost that you as a buyer can not identify. Take him with you to look at the vehicle you are interest in. Paying him $100.00 for his time might save you thousands of dollars in the long run. I would recommend the following if you're looking at buying a salvage/repairable vehicle: 1) Choose your Auto Body mechanic FIRST prior to going to purchase a vehicle that is salvage/repairable and pay him for his time even if you DON"T BUY. I've purchased a number of cars from George at East Coast Auto Source over the years.
